Happy Birthday, Chloe!

Chloe Honeygo Beasley is three years old today. We started the day by sleeping late, and awoke to sunshine! What a beautiful, sunny day it is outside.

Chloe received a birthday card - from her "Mommy and Daddy." What a perfect card for a Bichon, too. What else do we have planned for the day? Well, the day is still young, and we plan to enjoy every minute of it.

An extra treat, extra hugs, and wishing Chloe many more birthdays to come. Thanks for stopping by her blog to share part of the day with us.

They off, in a Priority Mail box - headed back to Mollie Jo and Bobo in Kentucky. No historical site photos, sorry. Here's the page we made for their scrapbook. Click image to view larger. We would have liked to take you the Liberty Bell in Philadelphia and many more places, but this was a busy week so we couldn't get out as much as we wanted. We made the most of our time together, I think. Ooops, we did wrong - we were supposed to put you up for grabs for the next blogger! I am so sorry. Too late! I just realized it. And I think I spelled Ba Ba wrong (should be Baa Baa!). We were horrible hosts. Will you forgive us??? Check with Mollie Jo and Bobo at their blog for where the stuffies will go next. Moo Moo and Ba Ba's Last Days Here

Well, the party's over ... Chloe's grandma's Halloween Birthday Party, that is. We held it today since grandma and granddad were out all day yesterday (Halloween Day), celebrating on their own with a little day trip. Look at the great cake we had for the party!

Moo Moo and Ba Ba were happy to be guests of honor at the party, too. They helped us celebrate in style along with Chloe. Yes, those two stuffies sure are party animals!

On the way to send them off tomorrow I will be able to capture a few historic sites (finally) along the way to the post office. And since we'll be boxing Moo and Ba at the post office, they'll be able to nosey around and pose at the sites. Their momma will be happy - we are sending a tag back with them, engraved with Chloe's name and our city and state. Bye for now - will touch base with y'all tomorrow and tell you how it goes.

Help Find Lucy the Boxer, lost in Bensalem, PA!

Lucy was let out of her apartment accidentally be a maintenance man.
She had her collar and tags on at the time. She was also spotted last night (10/30/09) in front of a 7-11 near her apartment complex, where she only has lived for 3 weeks or so. She's 2 years old. This is a long-shot that anyone in my area sees this on my blog - but here goes anyway. At least all of my bloggy friends can say prayers that Lucy is returned to her home safe and sound. xoxo

Zumba Night at The Elementary School!

As some of you may know, I take a Zumba class at a local elementary school, taught be a woman I know from high school. Well, for today's Moo Moo and Ba Ba adventure, we went to Zumba class together.

Chloe stays home, in the kitchen, behind the child's gate for a few minutes until her Daddy comes home and sets her free, at which point she then sits in front of the window looking for me for a couple of hours (!).

Before going inside the building, Moo Moo and Ba Ba posed in this gorgeous red tree. This could be a Valentine's Tree - it was sooooo red!

Anyway, we shimmied and salsa-ed, pranced and sweated. It was a great workout (if you haven't tried Zumba, it's a fun and fabulous way to workout!)

Then, after class, our instructor who is a counselor at the school by day (Zumba instructor by night!) gave us a tour of the main office, where Moo Moo and Ba Ba had a blast.

First, they made an announcement to the janitors or whoever was still in the building ... "Happy Halloween!"

Then they answered a few phone messages. "We don't know if that child was in school today, Mrs. Whatever, but we'll get back to you in the morning when the secretary is here."

Then they copied their bottoms on the copier machine.

And they mingled with other stuffies in the office.

Even became Phillies fans!

And saw a squirrel!

Not to mention, the money they could be saving if they switched to Geico car insurance ... (AL and other non-US bloggers: this is a reference to a popular TV commercial here in the states.)

They worked hard for the money in the office after hours.

And met up with a big stuffed dog. Does anyone recognize this character?

They hung out in the mailbox slots for a little bit before saying goodbye.

All in all, it was a pretty interesting adventure. What do you think?

Okay, I lied. We are blogging today. After all, it's Moo Moo and Ba Ba week. We have to be accountable to our friends in the blogosphere who want to know - what did you do with the stuffies today?

Well, the day started off with a Halloween-ish inspired smoothie - Boo Boo Blackberry. Made with store-bought fresh blackberries, Fiber One lime flavored yogurt, ice cubes, a shot of skim milk and a serving of Wheat Bran thrown in for good measure! Look at that luscious purple color!

Then we went for a wet walk outside ... after all the rain. With all the leaves on the ground and the gloomy dampness, it made for a very interesting walk.

Chloe chanced upon a giant shroom - a bumpy, orangey-yellow mushroom that almost looked like an autumn gourd!

It was big and juicy. Moo Moo and Ba Ba were awe-struck! Very good story to tell the folks back home in Kentucky country. Being in Pennsyl-tucky ain't so bad after all when it comes to nature walks.

We poked around at a neighbor's creepy yard ...

and noticed a black scaredy cat with arched back giving us the warning to run, run, run!

So back home we went, inside to get warm and toasty. Time for dinner soon. Until tomorrow ...

My Little Puppy Pumpkin

Today was a very rainy day. We planned to take Moo and Ba to historical sites ... but oh, well. We stayed indoors today. Moo and Ba tried to write a letter home to Mollie Jo and Bobo saying they were homesick and bored, but when I found them writing it, I vowed to show them a good time right away. "Since your momma likes collecting dog tags, how about visiting my collection of tins on top of my fridge!" "Ohhhh, we'd like that," Moo said. So, this morning, they hopped up on the fridge and checked out the assortment of tins up there.

As you can see, Chloe figures into the fridge adventure, too - that's a photo of her in the upper right, next to the Psalm plague with baa baa sheep. And a dog figures into the tin collection, center stage - albeit a terrier.

Later in the morning, a Fed Ex delivery came and our delivery person brought a special treat - a biscuit for Chloe!

Then surprise, surprise - Chloe modeled her pumpkin costume - $4.99 at Target! Cheap, cheap, cheap. It's just a hat and a neck "ruff."

Here Chloe is giving Ba Ba a sniff and a love bite.

She's my little pumpkin.

And when it comes to carving pumpkins, wish we could do something like this ...

... only for a Bichon.

Well, tomorrow momma has to do a LOT of work and may not blog again until Thursday. We thought we'd have a tea party today but it's still not totally out of the picture. More later. Have a good one!

Our guests have arrived ... Moo Moo and Ba Ba from Mollie Jo and Bobo in Kentucky.

Chloe was excited to see these two and happily posed with them.

They said hello to the scarecrow stuffie in the wreath on our door before their first adventure - a car ride with Chloe to pick up her grandparents from the Philadelphia Park "racino" (race track/casino).

We didn't go inside, just played cabbie. (There's a picture of Moo Moo and Ba Ba in the back seat parked outside the building.)

Along the way to the Park, we admired the pretty foliage. Since Moo Moo and Ba Ba were in their travel box, they missed a whole week's display of autumn leaves - which, as we know, can be short-lived and is not to be missed if one can help it.

Also along the way, we passed by the side and back of our local Women's Humane Society building, where one can adopt come "Wonderful Cats" - as the sign says. Chloe has an interest in cats, but not sure we could have one here. Nevertheless, since Moo Moo and Ba Ba have been guests at some lovely cats' houses, we thought it would be nice to pay tribute to the local shelter featuring those furry feline friends.

More to come: we are planning to have an afternoon tea party (probably on Wednesday, when it will be rainy and I can take a break from work in the afternoon). Tomorrow will be a trip to some local historical sites and more fall photos. The rest of the week - surprise! Check in to see what's happening then. Bye for now!

Moo Moo and Ba Ba are on their way!

We're having guests - they should arrive shortly. They are the infamous Moo Moo and Ba Ba, two adorable country stuffies from the two country poodles, Mollie and Bobo, whose blog we read all the time. (By the way, did you see those two won the Halloween costume contest at their local Petsmart?)

Here they are, right before leaving Mollie Jo and Bobo's house. How cute are they? They've been on an ongoing journey to see how many US and Canadian cities they can visit. Once they arrive, we'll blog about their goings on here - then they'll be off somewhere else. A scrapbook is coming along in their suitcase for us to add to their story. Chloe is looking forward to treating these two to a good time. Gee, they may be here for Halloween - that'll be interesting. If they don't bring costumes, we'll have to make some for them!

Well, bye for now and can't wait for Moo Moo and Ba Ba to arrive. It should be any day now ... any day ...

Autumn Heat Wave

We're enjoying some especially warm weather here in the northeast. It's a virtual autumn heat wave, with temps in the 70's! (Today is supposed to have a high of 75 degrees F - which is 23.8 degrees C.) So yesterday was so beautiful that I decided to take Chloe for a long stroller ride around the neighborhood, to look at the fall foliage.

Chloe was a good girl and rode in her stroller with the top down!

We especially liked the bright red and orange leaves. The red colored leaves are my favorite!

The yellow leavs are nice, too.

What's this? A sign at our neighbor's house. They've decorated for Halloween, and this sign is on their front lawn.

Chloe can't read it - so I read the sign to her ... it says:

A Possible Halloween Trick or Treating Team?

Blog Action Day: Ways Pet Owners Can Help Stop Climate Change

Chloe Honeygo Beasley here ... with some ideas for dog owners about what they can do to help stop climate change.

First idea: Buy less stuff. Does your dog really need 50 stuffies? Make a toy for your pet out of extra fabric left over from sewing projects or rags, like the ones shown above. The toys pictured are simple tug-of-war style toys, which are also good for dogs to chew on, made with strands of scrap fabric braided together and knotted on both ends to keep the pieces together. The colorful one is made with fleece; the white one, an old t-shirt.

Second suggestion: Eat locally-grown foods whenever possible. When you buy from local farms, you buy direct from the source, a lower carbon alternative to buying heavily packaged foods at the supermarket. Think of all the waste you'll be avoiding. Even better, pick your own produce, and get a workout. It's good for the environment, good for your waistline, too! Honeygo Beasley blog readers are a big fan of visiting their local Farmers' Markets. And make your own dog treats using pieces of vegetables and fruits from the farmer's market, sans all the packaging and fillers in store-bought treats - easier on the environment and good for your dog's waistline too!

Thirdly: Be responsible with the waste your pet produces. Pick up after you pet and dispose properly. You'll be helping prevent the spread of diseases. Dog feces that are not properly disposed of are a pollutant - destroying the health of beaches, parks and pathways. Leaving dog waste in a public place is against the law. Nuff said.

September Poll Results and a command performance

Results are in from our September poll, and the "sit" command is the most popular thing that Honeygo Beasley blog readers taught their pets.
Even before "go potty?" Well ... I must say, "go potty" was Chloe's first training command, although I didn't use those exact words. Around here, we say "make!" - as in "make a do-do" or "make a pishy" (pee-pee).

Nevertheless, the "sit" command Chloe did learn at the Petco doggie training course we took when she was about a year old. She's perfected sitting. And likes to sit while speaking.

Little Choe wants to play!

The other night, it rained - and Chloe caught sight of her own image in the window glass. I sat by Chloe's side, and together, we listened to the pitter-patter of the raindrops.

Sadly, while it was so innocently raining here, in another part of the world, a deadly tsunami was dashing whole villages to smithereens. We are still praying that more survivors are found amidst the rubble.

For after the storms, the sun does shine again.

Meeting A Friend's New Puppy

Yesterday was the last day of summer/first day of autumn (it was really both until the fall equinox at 21:18 military time or 9:18 pm). To celebrate the day, I met a colleague/friend for an alfresco lunch in Newtown. I took my camera along, hoping I would be able to find a dog-friendly picture to take, without having Chloe with me. The first thing I saw in town was a man sitting on a bench with ... a bichon! A big boy bichon named Lamby. Well, I was too shy to ask if I could take a picture for the blog but a little further down the street, what do I see but this ...

The sign says, "Doggie Rest Stop" and there was a bowl of biscuits and another bowl of water (not shown in the picture) for our furry friends which a local storeowner keeps outside the shop. And a fire hydrant is not too far away - how perfect!

At the restaurant, we sat at a table on the deck outside. It was a colorful Mexican style restaurant. Here's the delicious salad I had - those are mango slices and pineapple chunks around a bed of lettuce with shredded cheese. The yellow/brown things are fried plantains (like bananas) - so crunchy and sweet - and there's cup of a yummy cilantro/avocado flavored dipping sauce/dressing.

The signs on the bathroom doors were ghoulishly appropriate for the upcoming Halloween holiday on October 31st. On the ladies room door, there's a ceramic tile showing a skeleton sitting by the phone waiting for Mr. Right. I guess he is taking a long time!

On the men's room door, there is a skeleton (Mr. Right?) sitting on the throne reading the paper. I guess he is constipated and no wonder the female skelly is waiting so long ~ !

After lunch we went back to my friend's house to meet Molly - a gorgeous 4-month Shih Tzu. It felt good to hold a puppy again - and I was glad to help give some puppy training tips to my friend. Molly was so sweet and licked my hand to pieces! It was a really nice way to end the afternoon.

P.S. Aren't my friend's shoes great?
