Farmers' Market Challenge

Farmers' Markets are great places to spend time shopping, strolling and exploring. Best to leave your dog home!

Instead of a traditional Farmer's Market, I visited our closest local roadside stand - connected with York Farm, here in Bensalem, PA. This was in response to the June Farmers' Market Challenge over at The Road to Here blog. I and some other bloggers have posted photos of our local farmers market, produce stand, or a similar venue - places where you can find fresh produce as well as other local products.

"Why buy something grown across the country or the world when you can support your local farmers?" is our mantra.

Here's what we bought ...

Of course, Chloe had to get into the act! I also bought some of those good-for-you beets that are pictured above. Beets are NOT good for Chloe's breed, though - they can cause a red staining by the eyes that we Bichon owners try so hard to avoid. (Avoid treats colored with beet dye to help keep your white dog's eyes stain-free.)

Here's to a very sunny and soon to be healthy-veggie-eating Saturday. Be sure to eat your greens!

Chloe, my Mom goes places without me too so I understand how you feel. Thank you for the advice on beets, my Mom is going to check my treats. We like your pictures very much and love farmers markets, even though I don't get to go either.

Poor Cloe, Dispatch says you have his sympathies because you didn't go to the farmers market, maybe there were SQUIRRELS there and maybe CATS? and he hopes the humans love the veggies, maybe more meat for you is his philosophy?

Oops, I mean Chloe, sorry.

I leave Coffee when going to the market, coffee made spend more . . .he made me buy more livers, more chicken, more squash and I'll end up with myself with nothing LOL.

I go the local market just few minutes from our house, and I'm going soon!

Take care

we don't go to the farmer's market anymore since the last time some nasty lady told us that I was not welcomed. Mom wasn't happy - we left and we're not going back!!!!1

We grow our own cucumbers, peppers, tomatoes, melons, corn, green beans, and chives. We also have hens for fresh eggs. We sell the extras on a table by the barn. I want to grow beats! I love them!

Oh beautiful, I can just about smell the fresh sun-ripened veggies! We have a local farmers' market here too, on Sunday mornings, which I try to get to regularly. It's so important to buy locally - better on so many levels : a better social experience, better for the planet, better for local farmers, better for your health.
